'Orion Community' Involvement

Posted by Robin Surgeoner at Apr 30, 2020 3:47AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

WOW It is great to see so many swimmers from across all of the squads joining us for the Zoom Land Work – Anyone concerned that it will be too easy for you, don’t worry, as needed we are differentiating the sets – However where they are cardio based it is all about the effort that you put in.

That brings me to today’s (30th April) session – This will be our third Swimulation session, and is Front Crawl Sprint focussed

Also remember that we are doing our Marathon inspired 26 exercise based programme this coming Saturday (2nd May) morning at 11am

If you want to be included in the Zoom invite list please send me an email to

I am also still hoping to do some kind of social next Saturday evening with music, chat, and possibly a swimming based quiz – anyone willing to perform, send me some tune choices, or create some quiz questions then please let me know at the above email

Just a reminder that anyone can join the Member’s Portal for all the additional home training info, swimming technique and training technical stuff, fun stuff, video hilarity and so on

You do not have to pay to join the web site – however Orion are trying to ensure that they can pay us coaches something for the work we are continuing to do during lockdown, as we cannot be furloughed, therefore for this who are in a position to do so, donations to the coach fund can be made to Orion via the following details.

Also please let me or carl know if you would like a 1;1 These can now be organised with myself through Zoom or with Carl through Skype so please just email us

Cheers Robin

Here is a quote from Loz

_Please remember to donate as R& C are obviously not getting any pay during this time so all money sent via BACs , ref Personal training or PT will fund their work only. _

Orion London Marathon Land Work Challenge

Posted by Robin Surgeoner at Apr 28, 2020 2:01AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Land-Work sessions continue to increase in their popularity and Monday 27th April saw I highest total so far – It is so great to see al the swimmers, from across the squads, working together and being inspired by each other’s efforts.

We now have 4 sessions per week, Mon TUes and THurs at 6:30pm and Saturday at 11am

However this Saturday, in recognition of the cancelled London Marathon, we will be running a session which has 26 elements in it to represent each of the miles in the Marathon – Don’t Panic!!! There will be repetitions in the exercises and we will talk through anything that people aren’t sure of.

This will be a challenging session in recognition of the effort that a marathon would normally entail

Many participants in the London Marathon will be raising funds for a charity or club – I realise that this is short notice but if anyone wishes to use this Challenge as a sponsored fund raising opportunity then please do so, and if required we can verify your participation after you have completed the event.

Swimming Skills & Knowledge. There is now a new element in the coaching tips section entitles ‘Principles of Training’. This is equally valid to understanding how you need to train both when you are in the pool and perhaps even more so at the moment in maintaining your fitness.

Have a read – We are always open to comments and all that is being posted and hosted on the web site – so if you haven’t joined yet then please do so and let us have your thoughts too. Remember we are only asking the those to pay who feel that they can – taking part is much more important

Today saw yet another increase in numbers for the Zoom Land Work Sessions today we were up to 25 so welcome to those who have not been before

We have now decided on a regular programme so that everyone can plan to take part wherever possible

The sessions will be Monday, Tuesday & Thursday at 6:30pm and Saturday at 11am

Please tell your swimming friends to join in too – it is much more fun all doing it together, watching each other, and the opportunity for a quick chat, and of course to ask Josh and I any questions about your training at the moment

Keep fit and well

Robin & Josh

Hi Orion Folks

Firstly thanks to the swimmers and supporting parents that have taken part in the first two Orio Zoom Live Land Work Sessions, we upped the numbers to 22 for Wednesday’s session. The next session is going to be Saturday morning approx 11am. We have space for many more swimmers, so please join in. To take part on Saturday, if you haven’t already asked to join the Zoomer’s list then please send your request to

I would like to gauge the interest for everyone at Orion to take part in a ZOOM party on one of the up-coming Saturday evenings that we are all going to be staying in for.

I have the technology, I have the music, but I would love to run a Zoom Party if Orion members, swimmers or parents, would be happy to perform something at the party. It could be anything form Stand Up comedy to performing something musical, to bringing us a dance, to bringing some motivation to our current stuck at home lives. All you need is you and your device that you can perform in front of

Please let me know if:
1. You think an on-line party is something that you would like take be part of
2. If you think you would like to contribute something live to the party

Again please email

I look forward to hearing from you all

Wednesday Anaerobic Work Out

Posted by Robin Surgeoner at Apr 21, 2020 12:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Following the fantastic success of our first Zoom Land Work session and simulation yesterday, and thank you to everyone who took part, we will be running the second session tomorrow (Wednesday) at 6:30pm

Tomorrow’s session will be a faster work out with a competitive challenge – see who can finish first (we will be watching to try to make sure it is all done correctly. We will add times to the leader board, so please do time yourselves too.

The session will be based on Day 3 of the 7 Day Plan and you will need your skipping rope and ideally space to run 10m and back without injuring yourself

Here is a link tot he instruction video on the site – Not sure if you will need to join the site to access the video or if it will play in your browsers (if it doesn’t play you will have to join the website to see the video)

I will send invitations to everyone that signed up yesterday, so if you haven’t signed up yet and want to train with your team meets and see how well, or otherwise they do, then please email with your name, the best email to send the invite to, and which training squad you are in.

Yesterday we had 20 swimmers take part, lets see how many more will join us tomorrow
