News and Announcements

There were many breaststroke swimmers taking part in the Men’s 100m event at London Acquatics Centre. Karnell prepared himself in the training pool and felt good for the race. When Karnell dived in at the start of the race, in the end lane, he looked very powerful and turned in third place at the 50m metre turn in 29.12 secs. The second 50m swim showed a few swimmers, including Karnell, who were having problems keeping up the speed limit. Karnell swam the second 50m in 35.85 secs. There was a Birmingham University swimmer who had the first 50m time of 29.14 secs and the second 50 time in 35.11 secs which is almost identical for the two swimmers who have some training together. Karnell’s time was 1.04.97 – A VERY GOOD ATTEMPT AT SWIMMING ONE HUNDRED PERCENT.

Adam Peaty showed how to swim breaststroke by turning at 50m in a time of 31.44, then timed the second 50m in a time of 27.09 which showed the 100m time of 58.53. Karnell, you can catch him.

SUMMER SHUTDOWN

Posted by Orion Swimming Club Birmingham at Jul 22, 2023 9:10AM PDT

Swimming sessions across all groups will go on a well-earned two week summer break in August with last sessions on Friday 11th August recommencing on Tuesday 29th August.

This is both from a practical perspective due to a number of pool closures, but also to allow all our swimmers, coaches, lifeguards and our numerous unpaid volunteers a summer break and rest ahead of the start of the next season.

This February 6-12, Karnell was part of group of 75 swimmers from clubs up and down the country who were taking part in a week of training and competition in an offshore camp in Dubai, representing Team England.

The group of swimmers took part in three high-performance training sessions at the Hamdan Sports Complex.

They then took part in a further three days of racing at the Middle East Open and Junior Championships.

On Saturday 11th, Karnell finished 3rd behind the 100m short course WR holder llya Shymanovich in the 100m Breaststroke final, improving his personal best to 1:04.06.

The next day, in his 50m breaststroke, he set a new massive personal best of 28.36 and was nearly a second faster than everyone in his heat. He won his final later that day with a slightly slower time of 28.62.

This was Karnell’s first international swimming competition, and his first time competing for England, so he is extremely happy with the results.
